Our friends Dottie & Lew Anderson stopped in to visit us this week. They are on their way to his High School Reunion (don't know which one) in Mesa Arizona this weekend. We have really enjoyed having them on the lot with us and we only have to wait for two nights until they return! We enjoyed some wonderful Beers and Wine that Lew brought to share with us, and managed several shopping trips including our very disappointing Arizona Market Place swap meet. The company was great and that is all that really matters anyway!
The post that is used to lock our big gate was loose in the sand, so when we had the buildings done Andy "swiped" a couple shovel loads of cement to make it more secure. Well, we discovered that the post itself was all rusted off when - the strong woman that I am - pulled it out of the ground concrete and all when I forgot to unlock the gate before trying to open it. We had to break up some of the original concrete and Andy put an extension on the post - so we are ready to reset the post. It is much easier diging in the desert sand than breaking up concrete - see below.
We purchased a Flag Pole when we were at the rallies in Oregon this Summer, and now it is time to get it "planted"! This doesn't look like much of a hole, but it is actually 28-29 inches deep and 18-20 inches across. The desert sand is easy to dig in and this day the temps were not too hot, but getting the dirt out of the hole proved to be alot harder than we figured. Taking turns, we managed to get it dug, the dirt moved and sifted to get all the rocks out. Then we took all the rocks out to the open desert so they could be back in nature where they belong! Maybe in the next few days we will recouperate and get the concrete work done for both of these projects.
