We find a large parking area across the street from the museum and it seems most of us showed up at the same time! Good thing there was a big parking lot! After wandering around a great museum, we view a wonderful movie about John Wesley Powell and his explorations of the Green and Colorado Rivers. It is unbelievable that these men were able to make the trip. Some of them did not survive, but their exploration was essential in the settlement of the Western part of our country.
We arrive at our campground, Moab Valley RV, and get settled. It doesn’t look like it, but this was a great site - we even have satellite from the roof!
This evening we are having dinner and a cruise on the Colorado River with Canyonlands by Night. The dinner is an authentic Dutch Oven meal with several types of meat, potatoes, corn and Chocolate Cake for dessert. Our servers were very authentic also!
After dinner, we head down to board our boat. It is a very large flat bottom rig that can just float down the river or motor up the river. As we take off, our guide says absolutely NO photography! He tells us we can go on their web site to get pictures of the cruise. I did get a couple pictures before we set off. The moon was almost full and it was spectacular as it came up over the cliffs around us.
As you can see, they were not very generous with their pictures. In any case, we had a beautiful tour of the river, which included a spoken presentation with lights being shined on the canyon walls by a vehicle up on the road. We learned about how the river was formed and the last 15 minutes we just enjoyed some great instrumental music.
Tomorrow we have another hike scheduled. Andy and I almost decided to not do this hike, but because we will be seeing one of the most famous arches in Arches National Park - we will be brave and follow our fearless leader one more time!
