Nothing looks much different on the outside, but the inside is taking shape. The inside rough work is much more complicated than we expected - I guess this is not a "garage/storage" building! The Plumbing is very involved and with all the switches, the electrical is more complicated also. It is very interesting to see how it all goes together - once the drywall is up nobody thinks about all that is underneath that makes everything work.
The Plumbers are working hard. This picture doesn't do justice to just how much work they have accomplished!
The Electricians are having lots of fun having some demolition mixed in with their progress. The existing fan is being moved to be centered in the new area and so that the future “Murphy bed” will have enough clearance from the back wall.
This is just one of many examples of the wonderful construction practices we have found in the original Accessory Building. We are wondering more and more just how this building pasted the final inspection! Our General Contractor must be taking a beating on his profit with all the extra work to fix all the problems! Apparently in 2000 they didn’t care much cause this building passed the final inspection! Half of the plumbing was actually installed backwards! It is amazing anything was functional. Both the General Contractor and the Plumber just shook their heads before doing what was needed to make it all right.
Laying out the new electrical wires that will change the service from 50 amps to 100 amps. These are some heavy duty wires! AWG 2!!!!!!!
The new wires are all bundled and ready to be pulled thru the conduit. This guy will push the wires into the conduit from the rear of the lot.
This guy will pull the wires thru the conduit from the back of the building.
Without too much effort all the wires are thru the conduit - it was all so much easier than I figured it would be. They pulled all that heavy wire a little over 65 feet! The jets flying overhead did not help them communicate, but they made it all work. They were yelling “start” and “stop” in Spanish to coordinate the effort - no new fangled electronic communication devices for these guys!
We are scheduled for our next inspection tomorrow. The new plumbing is in the test position with water in all the lines to show any leaks. The first time they put the water in, water squirted all over the place! Unfortunately, the Framers put up some of the OSB before the Plumbers had a chance to put all their “nail plates” into place - thus a nail when thru one of the new pipes! The Plumbers were able to fix the problem and it looks like no leaks at this point - we will see how it is in the morning.
Our weather has been absolutely wonderful with low 80's during the day and mid 50's at night - little wind and tons of sunshine. We are definently in paradise! Not many great sunsets lately, but I am sure you are all bored with our wonderful sunsets and sunrises by now anyway - they are much better in person! Come check it out when you get a chance - then you will understand.
Once we pass this inspection, work should accelerate. Tentatively scheduled for the end of this week or early next week will be the Roofers, the Insulation and Drywall, and soon after will be the Tile floor. I will post more pictures of the inside when it changes a little more. We are on our way and hopefully will be in a “useable” condition in less than a month!
